Kate Pluister was born and raised in the Chicagoland area. She then moved to Boston, Massachusetts where she received a BA in English and a BS in English Education at Boston University. At BU, Kate’s passion for educational equity blossomed, and she decided to pursue a career focused on mitigating injustices within and surrounding education. After college, she wanted a break from city life and also wanted to gain exposure in the non-profit world, so when she received a recruitment email from Manna, a non-profit centered around community gardening, outreach, and education, Kate decided that becoming an AmeriCorps volunteer there would be a perfect fit. When Kate is not working, she loves to paint, hike, tend to her house plants, and listen to true crime podcasts.
